A welcoming, intersectional community dedicated to delivering a rewarding, secular educational experience and meaningful social engagement for homeschool families in Southern Maryland.

Our mission

WBHC seeks to help homeschool families deliver a rewarding educational experience and social enrichment together with peer and community engagement.

We do this by facilitating an inclusive and intersectional homeschool community, welcoming all religious and spiritual backgrounds without promoting faith-based views or practices, and centering LGBTQIA+, neurodivergent, BIPOC, and other marginalized groups.

We value communication, mutual respect, empathy, and equity in the educational experience.

Our vision

Develop confident, curious, self-empowered humans eager to change the world for the better.

Educational enrichment

WBHC offers students several educational opportunities. In partnership with the College of Southern Maryland, we gather to learn together at their La Plata campus on Wednesdays during our Semester Blocks.

Two semester blocks are offered in the Fall and Spring. Students can participate in weekly Learning Pods, which are structured classes taught by WBHC parents, focused on either Science or Social Studies curricula. After a lunch break on campus, students can choose to participate in two of several club options. Clubs are centered around student interest, parent supported, and are designed to be a platform for team building, problem solving, group learning, and social time!

Outside of our Semester Blocks at CSM, we offer monthly organized field trips, park play days, and community service group projects. These monthly events aim to connect with our community and with each other.

Tutoring options will become available throughout the year for WBHC students who are interested in outside support in core subjects such as Math and Reading.

Support for parents

WBHC offers support for homeschooling families, especially parents. Homeschooling isn’t easy! Connecting with fellow homeschooling parents can make the journey more fun. Our goal is to support homeschooling parents with resources, conversation, curriculum reviews, portfolio peer review, and more.

At WBHC we value parents’ involvement, commitment to the program, and insight into the subjects students are learning. Communication and mutual respect is an essential part of our mission as a community of homeschooling families.

What makes us different

As a homeschool collective, WBHC is unique from most cooperatives (or co-ops) because we leverage our collective resources to provide a range of learning experiences led by experts, professionals, community leaders, and volunteers rather than relying on a strictly parent-led curriculum.

Families contribute to the collective’s educational opportunities according to their individual strengths, from knowledge, skills, abilities, and talents to resources and networking or community connections.
